Apple Cobbler
It is officially that time of the year where fall is here, so here is an apple cobbler dish found on Pinterest and it is absolutely delicious and perfect for the season. What’s better than a warm fall treat topped with a big ole’ scoop of vanilla ice cream?
I have personally made it four times now and every time I make it, it doesn’t make it to the next day. It is loaded with so many flavors that remind you of fall, such as the classic cinnamon and spice (and everything nice). Not to mention that when you take a bite of this masterpiece the apples become this super juicy, sweet mixture and the topping is so buttery making it even better.
As I was baking this for the first time, I was looking over the directions and recipe posted and I was wondering why they used Granny Smith and Honey Crisp apples, but it turns out the Honey Crisp apples are actually known for being juicier than any other red apple. So, no wonder why there are only four of them being used for this dish.
Even though I think this dish is absolutely amazing and worth making, there are also other recipes that I have followed for peach, blueberry, cherry, strawberry, and caramel apple pecan cobblers that are EQUALLY as yummy!
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling
4 Honey Crisp apples, peeled and sliced
3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp corn starch
½ Tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
For the Topping
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 ½ Tsp baking powder
½ Tsp salt
1 stick of butter, cut into small pieces and melted
1/3 cup boiling water
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and spray a 13x9 baking dish with a non-stick spray.
2. Peel and slice the apples and place in a large mixing bowl.
3. Sprinkle the sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, corn starch, cinnamon, and nutmeg over the apples. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes, then stir again and put apples into the prepared baking dish.
4. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder and salt together. Add in the butter and with a fork, mix until crumbly.
5. Pour the boiling water into the flour mixture and stir until combined.
6. Spoon the mixture over the apples and spread gently making sure all the apples are covered.
7. Sprinkle with a little extra sugar and cinnamon on top and place in the oven.
8. Bake uncovered for 55-60 minutes or until the topping is baked thoroughly and has started to brown.
9. Serve warm and top with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
