5 Spring Cleaning Tips to Get Your Home Ready to Sell

As Floridians we can get a jumpstart on spring. With spring comes a feeling of growth, renewal, and change. This could manifest in the sale of your home or preparing your home to go on the market. We wanted to share some tips for you as you embark on spring cleaning.

1. Spruce Up Your Yard

The yard is often an overlooked asset to a home. Some tasks to keep it maintained would be: keeping the grass mowed, clearing the walkways of all debris, removing all yard clutter, clean out any overgrown garden beds or landscaping.  Pressure washing can also have a transformative effect on a home.

2. Enhance Curb Appeal

Curb appeal is a buzz phrase in real estate, but for good reason. add a fresh coat of paint to the front door, cleaning the outside of your windows, tightening and cleaning all door handles and exterior light fixtures, ensure gutters and downspouts are firmly attached. Again, pressure washing will also make your home sparkly clean!

3. Declutter & Organize

Following with the theme of renewal and change, decluttering can be a freeing experience and lessen the stress when it comes to selling a home. Some areas to focus on are: any garage or shed, linen closets, clothes closets, and kitchen cabinets. Either have a yard sale or donate items to a local donation center. As you clear out these areas, come up with a system for organization as you put back your items that you are keeping. Pro Tip: If you know you are planning to move, use this as an opportunity to get a head start on packing up items you know you will not need in the immediate future

4. Catch Up on Repairs

Some minor repairs to be on the look for would be: caulking any areas where it has worn away, repairing any plumbing leaks with faucets or drains, putting bright light bulbs in light fixtures and lamps, make sure all door and cabinet handles are fastened tightly, and clean out or replace your air filter in your home. Think of all of the ‘quirks’ that you have learned to live with, but could deter potential buyers and tackle that list!

5. Deep Clean

As you find yourself organizing and decluttering, make a cleaning kit to take with you through each area of the home. Some tasks that may not get done regularly are: dusting wall hangings and windows, shampoo carpets and rugs, deep clean any showers, bathtubs, sinks, clean or paint walls/ceilings, clean all light fixtures and ceiling fans, clean out ashes of the fireplace if applicable.
