Floral City Fall Events 2026: From Ferris Groves to Heritage Days

October 15, 2026

Floral City's fall calendar runs on two clocks. One is a countdown timer on the Ferris Groves website. The other is a single date the Floral City Heritage Council posted in September. The first starts the season in late October. The second ends it on Friday, December 4, 2026. For a few weeks in between, the grove's satsuma window and the town's biggest night overlap, and on December 4 you can do both in the same afternoon.

When we checked in early October, the Ferris Groves homepage still read "CLOSED FOR THE SEASON, SEE YOU IN THE FALL!" Above it, a store-opening countdown showed 19 days left. Counting from October 6, that puts the reopening around the last week of October. The grove hasn't printed a date, so treat the countdown as a strong hint and not a promise. Everything below builds out from that point.

When What Where
Sat., Oct. 10 VFW Auxiliary Post 7122 thrift sale with a Christmas Corner 8191 S. Florida Ave.
Wed., Oct. 14, 2 to 3 p.m. "Books & Beyond: A Year of Impact" Floral City Public Library
Wed., Oct. 28, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Halloween Costume Parade Floral City Public Library, Program Room
Late October, date not yet posted Ferris Groves store reopens 7607 S. Florida Ave.
November and December Ferris Groves satsuma availability 7607 S. Florida Ave.
Fri., Dec. 4, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Candles, Carols, & Carriages Floral City Historic District

October Happens in Small Rooms

Until the grove reopens, the town's calendar is mostly church-basement and library-sized events, and the dates are firm. The Citrus County Chronicle's Good Times calendar lists the VFW Auxiliary Post 7122 monthly thrift sale for Saturday, October 10, at 8191 S. Florida Ave. It includes a Christmas Corner, and proceeds benefit veterans. Holiday shopping in Floral City starts in that Christmas Corner, about eight weeks before the carriages come out.

The Floral City Public Library has the next two dates. On Wednesday, October 14, from 2 to 3 p.m., the library hosts "Books & Beyond: A Year of Impact" with the Citrus County Library System's library services director. Two weeks later, on Wednesday, October 28, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., the Halloween Costume Parade takes over the Program Room. Kids make their own treat bags, then parade around the library in costume to collect treats. The listing suggests staying after Books & Babies and arriving before Little Learners to catch it.

The library's Wednesday afternoons also hosted this year's Heritage Hours series with the Heritage Council. Those talks ran monthly through September 23, which covered the history of the Floral City Post Office. No October or November talks are posted yet. The Heritage Museum and Country Store at 8394 E. Orange Ave. has the same gap. The Council's site lists Saturday hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for June 6 through August 29, 2026, and nothing yet for fall. Private tours can be arranged through the museum director. If you're planning a museum visit before December, call the Council at 352-419-4257 first.

The Countdown on South Florida Avenue

When the timer runs out, Ferris Groves at 7607 S. Florida Ave. becomes the busiest stop on Floral City's fall calendar. The posted store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The grove has been at this since 1931. Its homepage lists fresh citrus and strawberries along with homemade baked goods, milkshakes, local honey, gifts and gourmet treats. The kitchen turns out homemade pies, strawberry shortcake and other seasonal items.

Our summer guide was built around the Ferris Groves gap, the months from April to October when the stand goes dark and Floral City summers move to shade and water. The reopening ends that gap, and it starts a much shorter clock. Shortly after the doors open, the fruit Ferris features most heavily on its site comes into season.

Satsuma Weeks

Ferris sells a product called The Satsuma Taster, a pack of nine satsumas. The product page says satsumas are available in November and December. They can't be shipped to Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, California or Canada. If you send citrus to family out of state, check that list before you order.

UF/IFAS classifies the satsuma as a mandarin, sometimes called a satsuma tangerine. The fruit is typically seedless and tender, with a rich flavor. According to UF/IFAS, satsumas generally mature from September to December. 'Owari', the main commercial satsuma in Florida, matures from October to November. The grove's own window runs a little later than the extension service's maturity window. For someone in Floral City, the practical window is November and December, starting around the grove's reopening.

That window has a hard edge. Satsumas are gone after December, and the strawberries Ferris is known for belong to a different part of the year. That puts the overlap with the Heritage Council's December event at the center of the season.

December 4, From Grove to Carriage

The Floral City Heritage Council's 2026 Heritage Days event is called Candles, Carols, & Carriages. It runs Friday, December 4, 2026, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The Council's Heritage Days page shows a horse-drawn carriage ride photo but no detailed schedule yet.

The Citrus County Visitors Bureau's standing Heritage Days listing describes horse-cart rides, luminarias and historic-home tours in the Floral City Historic District. For a sense of scale, last year's version ran on Friday, December 5, 2025, under the name "A Frontier Christmas." NatureCoaster's 2025 preview listed the Duval-Metz House, the Avenue of Oaks, the Heritage Museum, a Lions fish fry, a 4-H grill, Santa at the library, food vendors and horse-drawn wagon rides. Those were the 2025 details. The 2026 program hasn't been published, so don't count on any one of them until the Council posts its lineup.

Here's why the date matters for anyone who wants citrus on the way. December 4 is a Friday, so Ferris Groves' posted weekday hours run until 5 p.m. Candles, Carols, & Carriages starts at 5:30 p.m. That leaves half an hour between the grove closing and the event starting. If the grove keeps its posted hours, here's a plan for the day:

  1. Get to Ferris Groves at 7607 S. Florida Ave. before 5 p.m., while satsumas are still in their November-to-December window.
  2. Eat an early dinner nearby, or plan around whatever food the Council's final lineup includes.
  3. Be in the Historic District for the 5:30 p.m. start. The Heritage Council's home base is at 8394 E. Orange Ave.
  4. Stay for the carriages, which the Council's own page features, until the 9 p.m. close.

Confirm Ferris hours that week on the grove's site. Holiday-season hours can change, and the countdown has already shown the grove doesn't always print its dates in advance.

Where to Eat Between Stops

These are established Floral City kitchens, and they're on the same streets the fall calendar uses. Hours below come from each business's website and aren't dated, so call ahead, especially on December 4.

  • Pudgee's and Coffee Corral, Rosko Court. The Chronicle's coffee feature places Coffee Corral and Pudgee's together off U.S. 41 South. The owners bought Pudgee's in August 2022 and expanded into the neighboring vacant salon. Pudgee's lists its address as 8435 E. Rosko Court. Posted hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, so it's open past the end of Candles, Carols, & Carriages on December 4.
  • Florida Cracker Shamrock's, 8343 E. Orange Ave. Shamrock's serves Florida Southern and Irish pub food on the same street as the Heritage Council's 8394 E. Orange Ave. address. Posted hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday. It's the closest sit-down option to the museum on this list, and it's open on a Friday.
  • Monster's Pizza, 7101 S. Florida Ave. Monster's Pizza posts menu and ordering information online. The Heritage Council's Community Connections page lists it at 7101 S. Florida Avenue, with pickup and local delivery in Floral City. Its address puts it on the same avenue as Ferris Groves at 7607, which helps if you're picking up dinner after a grove run.

Before December 4, check the Ferris Groves homepage for the reopening, the Satsuma Taster page for availability, and the Heritage Council's Heritage Days page for the 2026 lineup. All three could change before the carriages come out.
